Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
